“Kyoshi Hanson has the unique ability to create learning opportunities for adaptive students simply by watching and listening to them”

Kyoshi Hanson‘s well-organized programs are delivered in a way that makes every student confident that they can achieve. Students that are insecure and unsure of themselves are provided leadership opportunities to boost their self-esteem. Students that have disabilities that prohibit them from doing a traditional move are offered adaptations to compensate for the move. This ability is what makes Kyoshi Hanson so successful in teaching adaptive students.

Enthusiasm is what propels Kyoshi Hanson’s curriculum. Continual encouragement of her students empowers them with life skills, leadership training and character development. It is without hesitation that I recommend Kyoshi Linda Hanson as an adaptive martial arts instructor. I believe your students will gain incredible life skills, self-respect and discipline through her program.

“My son’s self-esteem and confidence have grown exponentially. I cannot tell you enough what an inspiring place this dojo is.”

This is an Amazing Dojo! Kyoshi Hanson is an inspiring and gifted instructor in the traditional Shotokan martial arts. Karate-self-defense-sparring-basic techniques. She also has quite a few very accomplished Sensei on staff that are also teachers of mixed types of martial arts. It is really the best of all worlds.

It has been so transforming for my son that my daughter and I both started talking classes as well. It is a superb way to spend time together as a family! Kyoshi Hanson also teaches an adaptive Martial Arts class for karate students with special needs. Upper ranked belts are encouraged to come and help out. My kiddos have had a great time working with these amazing individuals and have made some very good friends.

““Tamashii Black Belt Academy has been extremely beneficial in many ways for our son who has Down Syndrome”

He is physically able to do things he has never been able to do before, as well as the confidence he has gained and the friends he has made have been priceless.

The support system for the family as a whole has been wonderful, I highly recommend the Adaptive Martial Arts Program for any child with any Special Need.

As a karate instructor for many years, I was so impressed when I watched Linda Hanson’s adaptive martial arts class. She has such a fun and caring approach to teaching children and adults who have different limitations and abilities. Her students have a great time and learn increased respect, concentration, self-esteem, self-control and social skills all using karate as the vehicle. As I said…very impressive!

“I was extremely moved by how much Linda was involved in each and every child’s special abilities.””

Most people hear the words ‘disability and karate’ and think it’s impossible, but all Kyoshi Hanson thinks of are possibilities. Kyoshi breaks down barriers that face individuals with physical differences and the results are the most enthusiastic punches and kicks you will ever see.

Livia’s mom shared this for an article I wrote. It really gets to the heart of what you are doing:

“It is a huge honor for any parent to see their child accomplish any life challenge, but for me, it’s so much more since my daughter has special needs. I was extremely moved by how much Linda was involved in each and every child’s special abilities. Seeing how much excitement was in each and every child’s expressions was heartwarming and exciting.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Does martial arts make kids violent ??

No way! Martial arts is about peace, harmony and diplomacy. It teaches children how to AVOID fights - not pick them.

Can my child get injured while practicing martial arts??

As a parent, I'm sure you've seen that kids can get injured doing just about anything. Martial arts is no different, however we take safety very seriously here. Yes, injuries do sometimes happen. But we do everything in our power to avoid them. We do special exercises and warm-up stretches to make your child's body more limber and flexible.

Can my child do martial arts if they’re not the athletic type??

Yes! In fact, martial arts is often a safe haven for shy, introverted kids who don't excel at team sports. Kids who have trouble in baseball, basketball, etc. often come to martial arts and do extremely well. And it's okay if your child is not athletic right now. With our expert training, they'll get in great shape and become stronger, quicker, more coordinated and much more sure of themselves in everything they do.

Is martial arts fun for children??

Absolutely! In fact, kids usually have to drag their parents to martial arts class - something parents are always shocked to see. We have our serious moments here where kids work and learn... but there's plenty of times where they goof off and have a blast! Your child will definitely smile and laugh a lot in every class.

Is martial arts a skill / talent that will give my child pride and confidence??

You bet… and lots of it! Some kids perform their martial arts moves in talent shows and other things. Their friends are always blown away by all the really cool things they can do. The positive feedback that children receive helps build their self-esteem and confidence. Kids feel good knowing they can do something that's really cool and special. To see their happy faces and how they hold their head higher than before is truly priceless.

Is martial arts for boys AND girls? Or just boys??

Martial arts is for boys and girls. Our classes have a good mix of both, too. So if you're worried about your girl being alone in a group of boys, there’s no need to worry at all! Having a good mix of boys and girls in class is a great way for them to socialize and learn how to interact appropriately at a young age.
